After Yolanda Richardson witnesses a murder outside her boutique, she is too afraid to tell anyone. But she was caught by a surveillance camera and soon begins to receive threats. She flees town, and her father hires Charles to guard her. After losing one love, Charles is all business with his clients. But Yolanda is very hard to resist, and he enjoys their sparring. She doesn't think she's in serious danger until the threats escalate. When it is clear that her family could be affected, Yolanda follows her bodyguard's lead, even as she convinces him to try romance one more time. The Richardson family argues and loves each other with plenty of humor, as in the earlier installments in Hodges' superb Richardson Sisters series, which includes Won't Go Home without You (2021). The scenes in which the sisters come together are fast-moving and fun. Hodges portrays another smart, ambitious career woman in Yolanda, who is also an appealing romance heroine, and the chemistry between her and Charles is a perfect example of why the bodyguard trope is so popular. After fashion designer Yolanda Richardson witnesses a murder outside her boutique, she packs up and runs to her family's bed and breakfast. She reasons that two states' distance should be enough to keep her safe. Her family disagrees and hires security expert Charles Morris to protect Yolanda. Now Yolanda can't tell which is worse: running from a killer or fighting the attraction she feels for her uptight bodyguard. For his part, Charles once fell in love with a client, and it compromised her security. He's vowed to never fall for a client again. Then he meets Yolanda. The premise of this third novel in the "Richardson Sisters" series is strong, and the characters are well-drawn. The novel's primary focuses are Yolanda, an unfortunately unlikable and unbelievable heroine, and her attraction to Charles. Althought Charles is a more enjoyable character, there is little chemistry between the romantic leads. Despite the murder, and the hired killer stalking Yolanda, the suspense never truly builds and seems like an afterthought. VERDICT Readers who prioritize hot sex scenes and character-driven plots, as well as fans of Hodges's previous novels, will enjoy this installment.—Heather Miller Cover, Homewood P.L., AL
